The history of any place, person, event, or culture, especially if the subject matter pre-dates literate writing or recordings, most often originates in oral tradition, which is composed of the stories passed down by word-of-mouth from generation to generation. Usually, once a means of recording the stories is available, the oral traditions become accepted as history, particularly if there is a primary source directly connected to the distant past.

This website and the pictures of the past record Mount Joy as it was during a simpler, quieter era, now just a memory, but one that can be recalled by anyone at any time by visiting the Historical Society to ask questions, to seek answers and to learn more about our shared heritage.
